Spirituality and Mental Health
Creating a Healthy EnvironmentThese groups, facilitated by a licensed or registered clinician, provide information and education about the many aspects of mental health recovery utilizing the theme of the week. These classes will use handouts, videos and more to engage conversations that utilize your mind, body, spirit and environment. By doing so, these insightful classes will give you a clear correlation between mental health and the mind-body-spirit-environment. The group topics will not only be relative to the theme of the week but also will be tailored to address the specific needs of the individual group members identified during the treatment experience.
Healing YogaFacilitated by one of our staff yoga instructors who will utilize various methods of yoga with modifications for the ability of the group members. Yoga heals by bringing your focus completely into the present moment. When you meet the present moment focusing on a pose and your breathing, the mind clears of other stimulation. Since thoughts can be negative and repetitious, we give you the tools to combat this by connecting with your present ‘self’ and the ‘self’ you'd like to become.
Wild WritingBenefit from the therapeutic nature of journaling and creativity: This group, led by a CSR or registered clinician, promotes the practice of journaling. You are given a writing prompt and encouraged to write for most of the group about whatever the prompt inspires. At the end of the group, you and the group will share the insight you’ve all gained with each other.
DBT GroupThis group, facilitated by licensed clinician certified in DBT, teaches distress tolerance and emotional regulations skills. These are cognitive skills and incorporate the Perception Therapy® principles. Here you will learn to further regulate emotions and not be steered off the track of healing.
Expressive Arts Group
Healing Dance/Movement GroupEmbrace in the many forms of art as a creative outlet and therapeutic experience. These two groups, facilitated by an expressive arts therapy certified clinician, will do traditional art or dance and mesh it with mindfulness meditation, expressive movement, walking a labyrinth and more in an exercise focused on bettering you.
MindfulnessThis group, led by a CSR or clinician, teaches you various mindful techniques, including meditation practice. These techniques can be incorporated into your pattern of living to provide peace and release you from uncomfortable stress and emotions. This group will be held in the group room, the yoga room, the deck or while walking on the beach or in a park.
Healthy Living GroupMembers of the nursing staff lead these educational groups, which include topics such as your environment and health, the importance of medication, spiritual self-care, sleep hygiene and more. These topics will be presented in a format that provides information, and permits participation and questions.
Psychodrama GroupThis group, facilitated by a psychodrama-certified licensed clinician, utilizes dramatic theater techniques to facilitate interaction with others and address issues. This very powerful group can result in significant insight. You’ll choose a group member to play an entity you want to address and begin a dialogue with the individual or trait. Other group members can play support persons. The protagonist group member switches back and forth between themselves and the individual or trait. Often you’ll receive enlightened insight into the situation, which can result in the resolution of a persistent problem.
